LAWRENCEVILLE-The Broncs won just three of 10 bouts in a loss to Rutgers Friday night. "Rutgers has a nice team and they out-wrestled us tonight," said Rider head coach Gary Taylor. "They have a good group of kids. My hats off to them."

For Rider (8-6) sophomore Jimmy Kirchner (Somerville) defeated the 20th ranked wrestler in the nation to improve to 13-8, 8-4 in duals. "Jimmy wrestled hard and beat a very good kid," Taylor said.

Also for Rider freshman Jim Resnick (Media, Pa./Penncrest) won to tie the score at 3-3 and senior Michael Kessler (Randallstown, MD/Owings Mills) won to improve to 17-8, 12-2 in dual meets.

"Jimmy beat a tough, seasoned wrestler," Taylor said. "I was very proud of the way he didn't take no for an answer. When Jimmy just wrestles he's very effective."

In the battle of nationally ranked heavyweights, #9 DJ Russo of Rutgers (10-2-1) defeated #19 senior Ed Bordas (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) of Rider 4-0.
The Broncs lost 18-16 at Rutgers last season. Rider and Rutgers have now met 16 times, with Rider winning 12, including five in a row before last season.
Rider hosts Duquesne and Clarion January 30. "Clarion is having a really good year," Taylor said. "They beat Old Dominion this year."
